wow. burnout?

It’s been a while. I don’t know if I have had a longer ‘no post’ time in the last 5 years…

Not too much happening here. Or rather, too much happening here.

Lets see. Here’s a list of what’s been going on:

*Search for the Shake ended for 2010. We’ll pick it up again in 2011

*I’ve been playing lots of games, Settlers, Speed Scrabble, Ticket to Ride, Puerto Rico, and just learned a new one today Carcassonne. Oh, and I purchased ‘Bang!’ (a mafia type card game) on ebay.

*Got two new tires for the front wheels of my car.

*Enjoying the final season of LOST.

*My roomie & I planted a garden. Tomatoes, Jalapenos, Snow Peas, Dill, Chives, & Basil. (also strawberries, but no luck with them yet).

*Went to two Dallas Stars Games.  One happened to be an Oilers game, and we were 12 rows up from the glass.

*Started up the grill. Corn, broccoli, chicken, salmon, steak, hot links, brats, potatoes, green beans, kabobs, peppers. Yummy!

*Started a one month trial of Netflix. 2 weeks, four movies watched.

*A friend from Wa State came for a visit. We took a road trip to San Antonio.

*Saw the Alamo. (3/6/1836 – & 10 years later Texas became a state.)

*Said Friend from Wa State, myself, and my roomie went to see the Mariners play on 4/11. They got beat pretty badly, but it was fun to see them play during opening week.

*Also on 4/11 we celebrated “Happy to be Alive” day – the 27th anniversary of my open heart surgery.

*Tried Nutella.

*Accidentally left the sun roof of my car open just a crack all night – while it rained. I was fortunate to not have any water in the car the next morning.

*Learned that people like to talk about PB & J on facebook & twitter

*Learned I’m a “terrible tour guide” which resulted in a driving tour of my neighborhood and surrounding area.

*Stayed up way too late past my bed time on numerous occasions (tonight being a prime example)

*I’m sure there is more but because of the item right above this… I can’t remember. 🙂

Moved!

I moved. It went so well, thanks to great friends where were willing to give a bit of time and energy on their Saturday morning.

I’m getting close to being unpacked. And after this evening, I should basically be done with the old place (cleaning) and handing in the keys tomorrow.

Not only did I get to move, with my new roommie and dear friends who helped me move – we had all had a blast hanging out.

I also would be remiss if I did not mention that my new home has cable & internet… Which for this weekend meant being able to watch a few periods from the first Oiler game of the regular season as well as the end of the Mariners Last game of the season. (still hoping it’s not Ken Griffey, Jr.’s Last game)

Oh. and the new Relient K cd drops tomorrow. It’s soooo good!

Moving

I’m moving again. This time, I mean physically, not virtually.

Not sure where I am moving (though I am talking locally!) and I don’t know who I will be living with, but I turned in my written notice yesterday.

I need to be closer to work and to church. The commute (with its extended time and cost for gas) is killing me. While I have loved living by myself this last year and I found it very refreshing and renewing, I am coming to the conclusion that as many have said, it is not good to live alone. Humanity is created for community.

With roommates, I can save money – and move closer to my financial goals. With roommates, I can be pressed and challenged to be less consumed with ‘me’, to see the world in a different perspective from my own, and to seek Christ more whole heartily. With roommates, I trust God will grow my already expanding community, as well as give me more opportunities to build into the lives of those around me.

What a difference a week or two makes, from being adamant that I would sign a new lease here, to hearing several voices of wise counsel, reason, outside perspective, and love, I must admit to my being wrong. I often say “oh yes, I want what God wants, I am seeking his best in this situation.” Sometimes it’s tough to actually let go of my self-centered ideas to actual hear what he is in-fact telling me through other people. So in a quest and heart felt desire to seek God’s best- the adventure continues and as it goes, it changes course, sometimes quite unexpectedly.  Well, unexpectedly to me, that is.

Any prayers are greatly appreciated. And in two months, any helping hands – also much appreciated.

Please Pray

If you happen to be reading this today, your prayers would be greatly appreciated. It is 1:30 am and I am supposed to be fast asleep. Later today (I am planning on getting up at 5:45 am) my roommates and I are moving. In addition to that, I have a very important phone call happening in the evening. Probably not the best activity on a day that I will be very tired, but your prayers are requested.

Regarding moving, Please pray that we have enough helpers show up and that it goes quick and smoothly. And that after moving, my roomies and I have the energy to clean our current home.

Second, please pray that I will have strength and energy for the phone call. That the conversation would be pleasing to the Lord and that any confusion would be avoided. Clear communication is a necessity in this case.

Thanks, And now I am off to hopefully fall asleep. (the anticipation of the phone call is keeping me awake).

Happy Easter

This weekend, my friend (and former roommate) Rachel came to visit me. We had a great time hanging out. Today, being Easter, we went to church and then in the afternoon attended a dinner hosted by one of my roommates Sarah S.

Later this evening, we had fun with peeps. The following video is my first attempt to capture life at grad school and the entertainment we come up with. I call this masterpiece “Three Little Peeps”

Enjoy!

Tornado Watch

Tonight we had our first tornado watch of the season. I didn’t know until I got home at about 9:15 and saw my dad had left me a phone message. Where had I been? Up the Tower!!!!

There is a tradition at Wheaton College that when someone gets engaged they get to go to the bell tower at Blanchard. At the beginning of the year, we did not know of the tradition, so we jokingly asked our professor how could we get up to the bell tower. (It looked pretty cool and we had “made it our goal”). It was then that we found out you have to get engaged. The engaged couple can take a few friends with them.

At that point, my two roommates and I made an agreement that if any of us got engaged, we had to take the other two up the tower. We bought some sparkling cider and glasses to take with us if we got to go at some point during our time at Wheaton.

This was August and none of my two roommates or I were dating anyone.

Well since then one roommate started dating a guy from her church and just a couple of weeks ago, they got engaged! So tonight was the night. Where were we during the tornado watch? A the highest place possible to be in Suburbia.

We call Blanchard the castle building, and I occasionally have class there. We did not get to go to the very top outside where the bell actually is, that was locked up.

Here is a photo of Blanchard, my favorite building on campus.

Here is a photo of the four of us in the tower. (left to right, Sarah S., Me, Sarah G. and Scott)

You may be wondering about the “graffiti.” Couples write or paint their names and the date on the walls (or stairs or where ever). They also get to leave behind something that represents them.

Canadian Christianity

I am now done with going to class.

I have a few more things to get done, like the book I am supposed to be reading right now. It is called “Borderland Religion: The emergence of an English-Canadian Identity, 1792-1852” The overall topic is pretty interesting, Its just that my brain has already started checking out. I have about 160 more pages to read and then write a paper about it, which is due on Monday.

Other than that, I have a final on Wednesday that I need to study for and with that final is one take home question that I need to finish before I go to take the test.

I cannot wait until Wednesday after 3:30!!!!

Oh, right, I also have work all of next week which is a good thing. And birthday celebrations for one of my roommates, and cleaning and packing to do before I head to WA state. Should be a good, yet busy week.

Now I just need to keep plugging away on my book….
