Ok, yes it snowed yesterday, but it is still only fall. AND even better, it is now fall break! I have a wonderful four day weekend. I am planning on using it to try and get some of my reading done. I figure if I can get ahead in reading, it will be easier to plan ahead for my papers.
And for the last few hours, I have had the house to myself. One roommate is with her visiting family, the other is at a dinner. Please don’t misunderstand me, I LOVE my roommates. God could not have done a better job putting the three of us together. It is just a nice change of pace to be able to be by myself for a while. Not having to carry on any conversations except with myself, I just find it so peaceful.
When I lived in WA, my roomie & I had very different schedules, so it was not unusual to have an a handful of evenings to myself. I guess I got used to it. I am good at entertaining myself and its how I unwind the best and regain energy.

Well, this morning we have snow flurries. Its really pretty and is actually starting to stick a little. They said we might get about an inch. One of my roommates is from Florida. She is pretty excited.
Wicked was pretty good. The music was amazing, the plot was interesting (it gave a different perspective of the characters from Wizard of Oz), the costumes were very well done. Overall, it was a very enjoyable evening. Hopefully, I will be able to post a picture of my roommates and I from our night out on the town.
Also, this evening I am looking forward to listening to an Oilers game this evening.
Ok, back to my homework.
Here is a picture of me out on our porch (acutally it is the roof) in the snow today.
Today one of my roommates & I had a great conversation with one of our neighbors. He is taking improve classes at Second City. (which I just learned is a comedy school/center) He is a writer of funny things. It was extremely interesting to hear him talk about the writers who succeed are not necessarily the “great” ones. The successful are the persistent ones. Always writing & improving. Always sending in articles. Typically the “great” writers tend to be a bit lazy therefor, they may write great masterpieces, yet never submit them anywhere.
As far as reading goes, I have a ton of it. I intended to read at the coffee shop, but instead we had the above mentioned conversation. As a result, I must go read now. Have a great day!
Uhm…the Tag of this post is misleading. I started to type thinking that today was pretty uneventful, but that is not actually true.
I got up early this morning to walk down to the farmers market with my roommates. I did not intend to purchase anything, but I went in on buying a couple of plums, a basket of String beans, and a bit of bleu cheese.
The rest of the morning consisted of reading for class, which I still have some to do. Then I took a nap (which was super nice, it was one of those where you fall asleep for 10-15 minutes and sleep so hard you dream). Then I went to target where I bought some of the last needed house hold items and a couple of new polo shirts to wear to work.
Off to the grocery store to buy some items for a salad I am making for dinner, and then here I am blogging at only 3 in the afternoon.
I will undoubtably do some more reading this evening and then for dinner my roommates and I are all pitching in to make a nice dinner.
(i just ran spell checker, who knew that on a blog, it would tell you “blogging” is not a word!)
So I made it to chicago! It was a safe trip and I will post a couple of pictures eventually. But I just wanted to check in and say I made it.
Also, as of today, I have now been blogging for a year. I still have limited internet access, so it may be a couple more days before I have a chance to give a run down of my trip and of my new home.
As for my house, it is so cute! My room is a small room off the kitchen that we are pretty sure used to be the porch at one time. I have windows on two walls to the outside where I view other houses and trees. AND, I have two windows into the kitchen. (this is why we think it might have been the porch.)
I will post more later, but for now, I hope all is well. Things are going great here and school activities begin next week.
Sometimes in life, it comes down to the wire and you have to decide. Sometimes decisions are easy, other times, not so much.
Currently, I have a handful of decisions to make regarding my upcoming adventure to Chicago. What will I take of my possessions, what classes will I sign up for, where will I live…etc. Some are easier than others. Classes, not so hard to decide. Medieval Christianity, no brainer, I’m there. Housing on the other hand, much harder. My gut says one thing, but can I just dive in and find out what happens? Kind of scary.
Some people use pros & cons lists, some just pick by chance. One of my favorite ways to decide is to play eany-meany-miney-moe. It does not matter which choice actually wins out, what matters is which choice I find myself “rooting” for. That is how I know what I really want.
More importantly then what I want, discerning what God wants can be easy or it can be hard depending the on the issue needing to be decided. For those reading this who understand the importance of petitioning God in decision making, keep me in your prayers specifically about housing decisions for this fall.
Just this once. If they beat Anaheim, it will be the Battle of Alberta.
Hmmm…I am thinking about making a small foil Stanley cup to set in my car with a fun “Go Oilers” sign.
Last night I did some more grilling. Steak & corn on the cob. The meat was average, but the Corn! Oh man was it tasty. So about 2 hours after dinner, I went outside got the still warm coals going and cooked another cob of corn just for a snack.
My roommate & I also watched “House” yesterday. We enjoy the program although occasionally, I have to look away as the medical stuff grosses me out. It is a two parter, they are airing the second half tonight. We really like that we don’t have to wait an entire week.
Well, Lunch is almost over so I better stop blogging.
Don’t you get to retire at around age 65? Well this week I took the first step to having money when I retire, by starting a retirement fund. Yeah, which means that now I am broke. That’s ok though because now I won’t feel like I am behind the eight ball. I always hear people say, “Start saving when you are young!” Even though I am still relatively young, I was starting to feel guilty that I was going to miss out on my opportunity to start my “nest egg” early.
My roomie & I were laughing because I still have some dental work that I need to get done. My thing is “I don’t have any money to pay for it” but at least come old age I will have money to pay for dentures. Just kidding!!!! I will get the dental work done this year too.
Other than that, I now have more info from Wheaton so I can start figuring out what it will cost to go to school. I got a small grant, which is super cool. I also qualified for work-study, so I can get a job on campus and get paid by the government. Sweet eh?
Dude! It certainly takes a long time to attach files to e-mails when you have dial up. I am only staying up to finish the e-mail and I thought I could blog while I wait. But now I have run out of things to blog about and it is still going….
