Two Years Ago Today….

Two Years Ago Today. I still think about it. And sometimes I think “We Have to go Back”

Life & Love & Why

Tonight is the end of LOST. It’s been a fun ride, blogging the adventure as it carried along.

I watched the first four seasons in four weeks time during May of 2008. I caught up just in time to watch the season 4 finale with the rest of the world.

I saw the Octagon Global Recruiting commercial and participated in the ARG.

I watched season 5 every week faithfully, alone in my apartment. I participated in one of the most fun ARG’s that ‘never was’ (through which I made a great group of twitter friends).

I watched season 6 every Tuesday, on DVR with a group of friends. And now we are here at the end. Will what I thought upon seeing the season 6 premier come true? Will we have all of our answers? Will I walk away from the show sad? Angry? Happy? Still Questioning?

Will I…

LOST: The End

Tonight is the end of LOST. It’s been a fun ride, blogging the adventure as it carried along.

Will I ever watch another episode of LOST again? Will the end allow me to recommend friends begin the long journey, or stay away forever. Will I dream of stepping back in time to the beginning so I can puzzle it out once more?

Tonight is the End. And what a spectacular end it will be.

wow. burnout?

It’s been a while. I don’t know if I have had a longer ‘no post’ time in the last 5 years…

Not too much happening here. Or rather, too much happening here.

Lets see. Here’s a list of what’s been going on:

*Search for the Shake ended for 2010. We’ll pick it up again in 2011

*I’ve been playing lots of games, Settlers, Speed Scrabble, Ticket to Ride, Puerto Rico, and just learned a new one today Carcassonne. Oh, and I purchased ‘Bang!’ (a mafia type card game) on ebay.

*Got two new tires for the front wheels of my car.

*Enjoying the final season of LOST.

*My roomie & I planted a garden. Tomatoes, Jalapenos, Snow Peas, Dill, Chives, & Basil. (also strawberries, but no luck with them yet).

*Went to two Dallas Stars Games.  One happened to be an Oilers game, and we were 12 rows up from the glass.

*Started up the grill. Corn, broccoli, chicken, salmon, steak, hot links, brats, potatoes, green beans, kabobs, peppers. Yummy!

*Started a one month trial of Netflix. 2 weeks, four movies watched.

*A friend from Wa State came for a visit. We took a road trip to San Antonio.

*Saw the Alamo. (3/6/1836 – & 10 years later Texas became a state.)

*Said Friend from Wa State, myself, and my roomie went to see the Mariners play on 4/11. They got beat pretty badly, but it was fun to see them play during opening week.

*Also on 4/11 we celebrated “Happy to be Alive” day – the 27th anniversary of my open heart surgery.

*Tried Nutella.

*Accidentally left the sun roof of my car open just a crack all night – while it rained. I was fortunate to not have any water in the car the next morning.

*Learned that people like to talk about PB & J on facebook & twitter

*Learned I’m a “terrible tour guide” which resulted in a driving tour of my neighborhood and surrounding area.

*Stayed up way too late past my bed time on numerous occasions (tonight being a prime example)

*I’m sure there is more but because of the item right above this… I can’t remember. 🙂

LOST season 6 – what I think

If you don’t watch LOST – no need to read this post.

If you do watch LOST and you haven’t seen the season premiere (uhm. are you really LOST fan!?!?! Watch it already!) – Don’t read, spoilers ahead.

You’ve been warned. Now if you would like to read my semi-limited ideas and theories, Proceed.

The obvious issue at hand… “Flash sideways?”  I don’t think so. I know that’s what everyone, including the writers, are calling the new method of storytelling, but I don’t think it is. I think we are still seeing “flash forwards.”  I think that they H-bombed themselves to another point in time – very close to the original “present” (I cite, Cindi being an Other as a small proof), but they did not succeed in “rebooting” or even splitting time into two streams of reality.

I think that we are watching the end of the story at the same time as the rest of the plot this season.  Why? My somewhat illogical reasons are, admittedly, based more on value of the show than absolute LOST puzzles.

1. If it were a simple ‘reboot’ on the last episode – everyone would be angry. All the redemption and character growth in the entire season is lost and irrelevant.

2. To reboot at the beginning of season 6 would be boring. We don’t want to see the characters live Island Free lives.

3. The chance to see the ‘reboot’ and progression thereafter, allows us to see that redemption and interconnection of lives happens island free – while still leaving a mystery to the end of “how did they actually set time right” again. –>Also on this point, It might play into Jacob’s comment about in the end they get it right, the rest of the time it’s just progress. For these characters, the island was progress. Experiences in it – will help them help each other in “the real world” overcome/grow/connect. So in essence it’s not a true ‘reboot’ which implies a ‘never existed’ quality about it. The island will still affect each person moving forward, they just may not know it.

4. Also, it was my understanding that long ago, the writers said it would not be a strict ‘alternate reality’ issue.

How does all of this flashforward/not flash sideways happen?

I don’t know – but I think further down the line in the next 16 episodes, they will succeed in fixing the timeline. Thus in a sense, the ‘two timelines’ will ‘merge’ because they never really split apart in the first place. This is successful time fix must occur when the island is actually sunk.

Also–I’m re-watching the premiere as they take Charlie off the plane… with the music, and camera work, it’s hard NOT to see this as the final scene of an entire show the way it is orchestrated.

So there you go – my thoughts on the new story telling technique. I realize there are major holes… Such as How is Desmond on the 815? But we have 16 more episodes to see how they are resolve everything (like that will ever happen. 🙂 )

A couple of other random thoughts.

1. Sayid is not Jacob.  FLocke (MIB/Smokie) is a different physical entity, than dead Locke’s body. **UPDATE. what I mean to say here is that there is only one Sayid. Therefore, unlike the two Lockes – it’s just Sayid, not Jacob.

2. A person is not dead until they are buried. Juliet, not expecting her back. Sayid, not surprised at all. Think of all the people we’ve seen ‘running around’ we thought were dead.  They are either only seen by Hurley (those buried) or seen by many (never actually buried)

That’s all I have for now. Still thinking… still LOVING the show. Is it Tuesday yet?

Please feel free to comment away. I love the discussion. The conversation is part of what makes LOST such an incredible, communal experience.

lost? arg follow up

Ok, so a little over a week ago, I posted quite a bit about a LOST ARG that may or may not have started on twitter.

Well, there is an ARG taking place, and it did have a connection to LOST, but its “unofficial” as it is fan made.  I hear it is a pretty complex puzzle and many have had fun playing. I stepped away from this ARG mostly due to time.  I have a day job, so I can’t play in the middle of the day.  I can’t play in the middle of the night either because I have to sleep so that I can go to my day job.

But, if you are still interested in playing along, just search #simeonhobbes on twitter and you should be able to find the game.

It was really fun to be a part of the beginnings of this game and I have to say, while I saw what happened with aplusk on twitter and the growth of his followers – I never thought I could gain over 200 followers in two-three days.  All because of LOST.  While reality has stuck now and followers are slowly unfollowing since I am not refraining from tweeting about unLOST related things, it was  an interesting “social experiment” of sorts.

Who is Simeon Hobbes? New LOST ARG?

Ok, here’s the thing, there may or may not be a new LOST ARG in the works.

Apparently, someone named “Simeon Hobbes” joined twitter on Friday. They started following a few of the already well established LOST twitterers. @simeonhobbes has been posting cryptic LOST related tweets. BUT here is the kicker. There is now a You Tube video out titled “Who is Simeon Hobbes” and its put up by “ThelostExperience” which was the first LOST ARG. Because it now has the lost experience you tube channel backing, its practically confirmed that it’s a new ARG.

Ok, so if you watch the video and read the comments, there is some morris code that is translated. Talking about the Bennu bird which is apparently the Egyptian version of the Phenix. Simeon Hobbs tweeted about “following the Phoenix” about an hour ago, So I searched Twitter and came across @epithetalpha. The only tweet from Epithet Alpha is “I am the Bennu bird, the Heart-Soul of Ra, the Guide of the Gods to the Tuat.” (Mythology, Egyptian or otherwise has been a large part of LOST). SO, I started following. No one else is. It could be a hoax, or I might just be the first one to get there. We’ll see.

***UPDATE*** If Simeon Hobbes is “real” than so is Epithet Alpha. Simeon Hobbes just tweeted @debauslaugh Phoenix found. YEAH! I actually got to play a part!!!

***UPDATE #2****
Ok, so this ARG for Lost is REAL! woohoo. And, most of the time, I am several steps behind everyone. Not this time!

The best LOST resource on the web is Lostpedia.

This is where I go to read the lastest theories. And when it comes to ARGs, I am amazed how fast they compile information. Well, I am honored to say, I got to give lostpedia a tip this afternoon on twitter, so I got a small shout out of sorts on their recent blog post. “a user” that would be me. 🙂

I think my twitter followers is already increasing drastically… Looking forward to a fun ARG for the summer.

Pictures

Sadly, most of the photos we took were really, really blurry. (Operator Error)

Here is our view of the field from on Wed.

And here is a picture of me & the signs.

The story on the sign, Tim went to an M’s game Friday in Minnesota. His sign said “Help. Mariners Fan stuck in South Dakota”
Apparently he was put on TV back home and the broadcasters loved his sign. I was hoping that because that was only five days earlier…if they saw my sign they might think it was funny. More so, I just find it amazing that one of my brothers and I attended away games for the M’s in two different parts of the city within five days of each other.

Also – side note – just watch the season 5 finale for LOST. Seriously considering that this show may have a chance at overcoming the place that the West Wing holds in my mind.

LOST the M's game(s)

I went to the Mariners games yesterday and today. We lost both! On tuesday, I went by myself and really enjoyed watching the entire game. Tonight, I went with 10 other people. We had a grand time. and it went into extra innings. The M’s went ahead by one run in the top of the 11th only to have Morrow come in and give up two runs. Game over. Overall, it was a fantastic game, although it broke my heart in the end.

I had a sign that didn’t make much sense to most people. And I don’t think anyone back home got to see it.

I’ll post some pictures tomorrow. And explain the sign.

Also – tonight was the season finale for LOST. So if you know me at all, it says a lot that I chose to go to a Mariners game. As much as I love LOST – The M’s hold more sway.

Another "what did you see" commercial on ABC

So the “Flash Forward” viral commericals continue during LOST. Actually, I only caught one, but part of the time the tv signal blinked out, so I may have missed some. It looks like they put up several images. The only one I was able to see & remember was a dog.

I googled “What did you see” and the very first site was:

What Did You See?
With the following tag: Help Put the Pieces Together.

My first post on the subject is here.

Fringe Picked up

I have been semi-regularly watching Fringe. I like it. It’s sci-fi. It’s J.J. Abrams. It’s mystery. It’s picked up for a second season.
